WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VITAMIN C FOR THE SKIN?
Vitamin C is super popular. Both the internal body and the skin need it to be healthy. But what is it exactly? And what does it do exactly? Witlof Skincare skin expert Caroline van Eeuwijk answers all the questions you have about vitamin C.
WHAT IS VITAMIN C?
Vitamin C is also known as ascorbic acid, and has many functions in the body, such as protecting cells, helping to heal the body's wounds, and maintaining healthy blood vessels and cartilage. It is also incredibly good for your skin.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is, among other things, necessary for the formation of connective tissue. It strengthens the skin, which in turn helps to reduce the appearance of lines, for example. The benefits of Vitamin C are numerous.
DOES VITAMIN C WHITEN OR LIGHTEN THE SKIN?
It also helps against hyperpigmentation, meaning It prevents the accumulation of melanin cells and evens out your complexion. So yes, vitamin C will help lighten the skin, however it will not change your skin's natural colour.
DOES VITAMIN C CAUSE IRRITATION TO THE SKIN, OR DAMAGE THE SKIN BARRIER?
Vitamin C is not a panacea. Its effects are only noticeable with long-term use. Too much of this vitamin, for example in special serums, can also have adverse effects, such as skin irritation, sensitivity, permanent redness and hyperpigmentation.
WHEN SHOULD YOU NOT USE VITAMIN C?
You shouldn't use vitamin C when your skin is already sensitive or overdosed on it. Both of these circumstances can cause irritation or redness on the skin.
ARE VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENTS GOOD FOR THE SKIN?
Yes! By consuming the necessary amount of vitamin C, either by natural foods such as citrus fruit, or by supplements, you are internally creating the building blocks to produce collagen, which rebuilds the skin.
However, this is not to say that a topical vitamin C cream is unnecessary, They are both beneficial for different reasons. Topical creams have a clarifying effect, removing impurities from the skin.
CAN YOU USE VITAMIN C EVERY DAY?
Now you’re probably wondering, how do I incorporate Vitamin C into my daily routine? The Rosehip Seed Oil in the Witlof Skincare Regenerating Oil Serum is a perfect daily dose for your skin. Apply it under your cream with pressurised hand movements on cleansed skin. Good for day and also for evening, easy does it!
