We'll keep it as brief as possible as to why you might switch from a regular brand to Witlof Skincare:

a) Witlof Skincare is composed exclusively of natural raw materials and partly organic (e.g., the plant oils). By caring for your skin with Witlof Skincare, it will be nourished, resulting in healthy and more balanced skin. Your skin will then look calm and radiant, with a natural glow.

b) Most regular brands are largely made from synthetic ingredients. These are not of natural origin, and that is reflected in the price. Natural raw materials are more expensive but also give that extra strength and dimension to our products (compare it to food: would you rather have fresh vegetables from the garden that nourish your body, or artificial vitamin juice with synthetic vitamins from the supermarket?). Moreover, synthetically manufactured vitamins are less well absorbed by your body, so you actually need more of them for the same effect.

c) Most regular brands still contain substances that can irritate your skin (immediately or in the long term), such as phenoxyethanol or sulfates. Or they contain PEG, which is a skin-drying substance that in 65% of tested cases still contains residues of dioxane (=carcinogenic substance). Or they contain mineral oils or silicones. The latter are also not good for your skin, especially not on a daily basis, because they act like a kind of mineral oil 'light'. In addition, they are not good for the environment.

d) Sustainability is more strongly represented at Witlof Skincare than at regular brands. We work with recyclable packaging, some of which are made from bioplastic. We have a recycling program (5% discount on your new purchase if you have disposed of your empty packaging in the segregated waste). And that's just the beginning!

e) For the quality of a natural product, we have kept the price as low as possible. So, relatively speaking, for what you get, Witlof Skincare is not expensive.

f) Our products are effective but not too harsh. For example, our peeling is mild enough to use weekly.

g) All our products are vegan.

h) Our products are conceived, developed, and produced in the Netherlands, so as local as possible!

Unfortunately, there are a number of bottles where the pump does not work properly. It may seem like the pump is broken or the bottle is empty, but this is usually not the case.

The bottle is made from recycled plastic and does not contain a tube. We chose this to create the most sustainable product possible, which is better for the environment.

However, sometimes air remains in the bottle. The system therefore pumps the cream upwards (without a tube). What is probably happening is that a little air needs to be pumped out before the cream comes out. You can solve this by hitting the bottle upright several times firmly on a (table)top (I put a towel underneath so that the table is not damaged and you can do this vigorously). Leave the bottle upside down overnight.

The air bubble will then be able to be pumped out, and if you then pump about 10/15 times, the cream should appear.

To perform the skin detox, follow these steps:

1. Stop using all products such as make-up, foundations, and sunscreens that contain any of the following ingredients: (mineral oil, paraffin/paraffinum/paraffinum liquidum, microcrystalline wax/cera microcristallina, petrolatum, vaseline, ozokerite/ceresin, dimethicone/cyclomethicone)

2. Cleanse your skin thoroughly twice a day with Witlof Cleansing Mousse and Witlof Balancing Toner to restore your skin's pH balance. For extra cleansing, it is advisable to use Witlof Smoothing Peel once a week.

3. Continue this cleansing routine for at least two, preferably four, weeks, without using a cream or oil. On average, all skin cells in your face renew themselves within 28 days, and during this period, your skin will have rid itself of most residues of synthetic substances, perfumes, and mineral oil that were previously stored in your skin.

When switching from conventional products to natural cosmetics, the skin can sometimes react. This is because your skin is recovering from the use of mineral oils and/or synthetic ingredients such as perfume. This is a kind of detoxification reaction and can consist of drier skin, flakes, a tight feeling, or pimples. Don't worry, it's temporary, and often you won't notice anything (except that your skin will improve). If you have any doubts or questions, please send an email for professional advice.

For example, dry, dehydrated skin is sometimes confused with a dry skin type. Both require different care. To make an accurate skin analysis, we recommend doing the skin detox (see also: do the skin detox). Only then can you see what your skin truly needs. Our many years of experience have shown that most people have much less dry skin after the skin detox and need to use less or no cream at all.

We don't have a specific anti-aging line, but all our products help to combat skin aging with healthy ingredients that support the skin. We don't use ingredients that accelerate skin aging, which many other brands do, such as dehydrating substances like PEG or sulfates.

For dry skin, we recommend using the Smoothing Peel, followed by the Balancing Toner, the Regenerating Oil Serum, and then the cream. This is very suitable for a dry skin type to nourish and retain moisture, leaving your skin feeling soft and supple.

It is indeed normal to get a little redder after using the Smoothing Peel, but that should subside after 30-45 minutes. If it lasts longer, the advice is to leave the peel on for a shorter time, e.g., 1-2 minutes. Also, if you experience flaking, which can happen, we recommend reducing your use, so at most once a week or every two weeks, and then leaving it on for 1-2 minutes. Once your skin is used to the product, you can always increase the frequency of use to once or twice a week, or leave it on for a longer period. We generally recommend using it once a week and leaving it on for about 5 minutes.

If you used a regular skincare brand before Witlof Skincare, you might also experience flaking because your skin is recovering from the use of those products with drying ingredients. Ultimately, in most cases, it will pass, and your skin condition will improve greatly, becoming less dry and free of flakes. However, as a precaution, limit the use of the peel if you react strongly to it, and do not hesitate to email us at hello@witlofskincare.com if you have any questions or need personal advice.

The Cleansing Mousse (and also the Cleansing Milk) is very suitable for cleansing makeup (including non-waterproof eye makeup) and, for example, sunscreen. However, we recommend cleansing twice: once to remove makeup residue, and a second time to thoroughly cleanse the skin itself.

You can also do a double cleanse in combination with the Argan Oil. First, massage the Argan Oil thoroughly to loosen makeup and cream residues, and then you can remove them with, for example, a warm, wet cloth. This will also immediately cleanse your pores better, as they open up due to the warmth of the cloth (as is also done in beauty treatments). Afterwards, cleanse again with the Cleansing Mousse and your skin will be super clean! Don't forget to spray the Balancing Toner on your face to complete the cleansing. Your skin will then be rehydrated and protected, with the correct pH value.

We use benzyl alcohol, dehydroacetic acid, potassium sorbate, and citric acid to preserve our products. The antioxidants in the products also have a preserving effect.

Witlof Skincare products are not tested on animals, and are therefore cruelty-free. The skincare products are also vegan, meaning they are free from ingredients obtained from dead or living animals. Do you want to know exactly what substances the products contain, and what they do for your skin? On all product pages, you will find a detailed overview of the ingredients used and their effects.

Our products are 100% natural and a portion of these natural ingredients are also organically grown. So our products are partially organic. Our packaging and ingredient list indicate which ingredients are organically grown.

No, our products do not contain palm oil. The ingredient list / inci for our products can be found on our website and is also stated on the packaging.

We are still considering whether or not to continue using boxes, but for a new brand in this segment, there's a strong case to be made for keeping them. This is partly due to packaging, shipping, and visibility in stores. Furthermore, a box gives us the opportunity to explain more about the product, its function, and how to use it. Many consumers appreciate this. Our boxes are made from FSC-certified paper, which is a sustainable type of paper.

There are different types of alcohol. The alcohol found in Witlof Skincare products is a type used to dissolve certain plant extracts so they can be incorporated into the products (think of homeopathic drops, for example). It ensures that the extracts are even better absorbed by your skin, and in our case, that is precisely the intention. The vitamins and antioxidants penetrate deeper into the skin where they can do their good work.

Furthermore, the percentage of alcohol in the Nourishing Facial Cream, for instance, is only 0.17% of the entire formula. This is a very small amount and necessary to be able to add the extracts of ginger (for vitamin A) and rosa canina (for vitamin C). In a cream that is applied, this natural and safe ingredient is harmless and has no negative effects on the skin.

However, you should avoid harsh alcohols in cosmetics, such as 'alcohol denat.'. This is listed on the ingredient list of products and is, for example, very drying.
