Natural solar filters: zinc oxide
We believe that of course is better for many reasons. Whatever natural sunscreen you choose, you know that what you put on your skin is healthy and clean.
Chemical sunscreen contains chemical UV filters, including Oxybenzone and Octinoxate. These are the most famous - but soon the most dangerous. Together with other chemical UV filters, they penetrate deep into the skin. In fact, these substances were even found in people's blood, even a week after their use. In addition, artificial sunscreen often contains ingredients such as silicone that can irritate the skin.
Natural sunburn is better for yourself, but it also helps the environment! In some parts of the world it is now forbidden to use chemical sun filters, because they affect the coral in the ocean. Natural solar filters such as zinc oxide are harmless for coral reefs and safe to use everywhere. We call that Reef-Safe that;)
Why is zinc oxide sunscreen better?
Natural sun protection contains no chemical sun filters, but is made based on the mineral filters zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are usually used together. Zinc oxide is a very good filter because the UV radiation reflects and prevents the radiation from penetrating the skin.
Zinc oxide is obtained by burning the mineral zinc, but also by thermal decomposition of the components of zinc hydroxide, zinc carbonate and zinc nitrate. It works against both UVA and UVB rays, so perfect for optimum protection.
Can a solar filter with zinc oxide irritate the skin?
While a standard sunscreen with chemical filters often contains drying mineral oils and perfumes that can react with sunlight and the filters are sometimes even toxic, a natural sunscreen with zinc oxide forms an harmless barrier on the skin. Recent studies also show that chemical sun filters can cause itching and eczema on the skin, where a natural filter in a sun filter does not do (NCBI - WWW Error Blocked Diagnostic, 2003).
Does a sunscreen with zinc oxide leave a white haze?
It is true that a natural filter can leave a white haze on the skin. That is why many skin care brands choose to use nanotechnology to get rid of the white effect. Chicory Skincare solves it in a different way. Different techniques have been developed nowadays to prevent the white haze effect in a different way, without using nano technology.
